The Community Action on Energy Efficiency (CAEE) initiative is a pilot program that provides financial and research support to select BC municipalities to advance energy efficiency through local government policy instruments and building upgrade incentives. It is anticipated that the CAEE initiative will form a robust, long-term framework that will help the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources (MEMPR) meet the energy efficiency targets set out in the provincial strategy for buildings (Energy Efficient Buildings: A Plan for BC).
The CAEE initiative evolved from a jointly managed MEMPR/NRCan pilot project in 2005 and 2006 that is financially supported by the federal Opportunities Envelope in 2006 and 2007.
Within the framework of BC's Energy Strategy, MEMPR expanded its Community Action on Energy Efficiency (CAEE) program. From 2005 to 2007 MEMPR issued three separate calls to action to all municipalities and district councils in BC to invite participation in the CAEE Program by acting as host to a number of energy efficiency policy and incentive programs aimed at different building sectors.
